If you're new to the world of digital photography or have just purchased a new mirrorless or DSLR, if you're confused and the camera manual is making things worse or if you just want to brush up on camera settings and techniques then this is ideal.
Wildlife Photography Workshops & One-to-One Tuition
The beauty of wildlife photography is that it is constantly changing and evolving. Every encounter is unique, and the unexpected is often what creates the most memorable images. As photographers, we must learn to work with changing light, weather, environments and animal behaviour, knowing that the outcome can never be fully predicted.
That unpredictability is what makes wildlife photography so exciting. It is about observing wild animals in their natural habitat and placing a frame around what we see, allowing others to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
My one-to-one sessions are designed to share the simple techniques and approaches that have transformed my own photography. I will show you how to approach wildlife using proven fieldcraft skills, ensuring that animals remain relaxed and undisturbed, allowing you the best opportunities to capture their beauty, behaviour and character.
Whether you are completely new to photography, have recently received a new camera, or are returning to the hobby after a break, these sessions are tailored to help you develop confidence and improve your skills.
Beginners Photography Workshop
This essential one-day course is the perfect starting point for all camera owners.
We begin with camera terminology and the exposure triangle, introducing the core principles of photography in a straightforward and practical way.
During the workshop we will cover:
- ISO, aperture and shutter speed, and how they work together to create a well-exposed image.
- Understanding which settings to use in different lighting conditions.
- How aperture affects depth of field and controls which parts of an image are sharp or softly blurred.
- Selecting the appropriate shutter speed to achieve your creative vision, whether that is freezing movement or introducing motion into your photographs.
- Composition techniques to help create strong, compelling images with maximum visual impact.
Wildlife Photography Tuition
These one-to-one sessions are suitable for photographers of all abilities and can be tailored to meet your individual goals and interests.
I will demonstrate how to use natural light effectively to add mood and impact to your photographs, including techniques such as side-lighting, back-lighting and working with changing conditions in the field.
Together we will explore:
- Camera settings for wildlife photography.
- Composition and image design.
- Depth of field and creative control.
- Reading natural behaviour and anticipating wildlife encounters.
- Practical fieldcraft techniques that allow close observation without causing disturbance.
- Developing a simple and effective workflow that can be applied in the field.
The camera settings and techniques I teach are the very same methods I use in my own photography. Throughout the day, I will share examples from my portfolio and explain the approach behind many of the memorable moments I have been fortunate enough to witness and capture in nature.
The aim of these sessions is to help you put theory into practice, enabling you to return home with greater confidence, improved technical knowledge and a deeper understanding of wildlife photography.
My promise is simple: to help improve your photography while teaching you how to observe, listen and recognise the subtle signs that nature reveals to those willing to slow down and watch.

Wildlife Photography Workshop in paid hides
I can arrange tuition days at some of the best wildlife hides in the UK - (subject to avaiability). These locations are carefully selected to create prime conditions for one or more species, and are designed to have hides situated in relative close proximity so you can capture stunning shots of wildlife in its natural environment.

What do I need to know?
It's private tuition, designed around what you want and need. Tell me what you want to learn, and I'll do my very best to get you up to speed.
As private tuition is tailored to your needs, your current knowledge isn't really a concern, we can get you up and running with confidence if you're a beginner, or help you with a specific area of your photography if you're further along your photographic journey.
What do I need?
A camera! Whilst the tuition is mainly aimed at digital cameras of all types (SLR, compact system, bridge or compacts), .
A Tripod if you have one. Don't worry if you don't.
Memory Cards/Film/Spare Batteries. We'll be trying many different techniques and it would be a shame to feel limited by the number of exposures you could take. Do ensure all batteries are fully charged.
Any lenses/accessories you may have: you never know when you might need them.
Footwear and Clothing suitable for a walk outside, including wet weather gear (hopefully not required).
Age restrictions?
Children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a designated, appropriate adult; this may be a family member, nanny or chaperone. If the appropriate adult is not receiving tuition no extra charge will be incurred. (excluding paid hides)

Terms & Conditions of Booking
A booking will be finalised once a booking form and payment has been received and the booking is confirmed by RAK Photographic.
Payments are not normally refundable. . The preferred payment method is by PayPal.
RAK Photographic reserves the right to change the program in the unlikely event of circumstances beyond control. Any significant alterations will be advised to you.
If tuition is cancelled by RAK Photographic, a full refund of the amount paid will be made. Alternatively, you may transfer your payment to another tuition date. No liability is accepted for any further costs incurred.
RAK Photographic accepts no responsibility for illness due to virus transmission, including Covid-19, or costs incurred due to virus-related travel restrictions/pandemics.
RAK Photographic cannot be held liable for any loss or damage to personal items, or for personal accident and injury.
The nature of tuition includes potentially uneven or wet ground. By agreeing to the terms and conditions and by making payment you accept full responsibility for your actions. You are advised to take out personal insurance if you deem necessary.
